Day 2- Fiction and Fellowship

Waking up in Romania on day 2, our group prepared for our first full day-a combination of sightseeing and worship with Romania Christians .  The local church supplied an amazing breakfast of seasonal fruit, vegetables, meats and cheeses.  Our favorite was the watermelon and some spicy stuffed peppers with cheese.  Not things we usually have in our country first thing in the morning, so it was a great experience to try something new.

We started out to tour Bran Castle, home to the legendary Count Dracula.  While there we got a private tour, learning the history of the castle and more about Vladimir Tepes, the ruler of Wallachia.  We learned that the notoriety of this castle came more from the fictional story written by Bram Stoker than the history of the Romanian people.  Instead, Stoker was inspired by the legendary dictator and his ruthless and often bloodthirsty rule.  Stoker used the description of this specific castle and fictionalized Dracula’s character  based on Tepes’ membership in the Order of the Dragon (Dracula in Romanian).

After heading back to Sighisoara for a quick change (women wear dresses and close-toed shoes here, where men where khakis and polos), the team headed to church.  At the service, we got to hear testimonies from church members about the circumstances in their life that brought them to know Christ.  Two members from our team, Kennedy and Jaxson, also shared their own stories of transformation through a translator.  Cornwall pastor Scott Moon shared a message.  Luke and Rayna lead worship in English and the church sang with them in Romanian.  It was an incredible thing to hear the swell of music embodying both cultures unique languages.  It gave us a glimpse of future glory, where Jesus is worshiped by every tribe and tongue with one voice.
